Protect Your Vote

My name is Jason Osgood. I am Washington's next Secretary of State.

You need me in Olympia to:
  • Protect your right to vote
  • Protect your voter privacy
  • Ensure your ballot is counted correctly
  • Make our government more transparent and more accountable
Here are three examples of how I will protect your vote where my opponent hasn't.

Experience vs Judgement

Sam Reed stated in the 2004 Voter's Pamphlet that following Florida 2000, his experience would prevent that kind of debacle from happening here in Washington. That very year, he oversaw Washington's very own election meltdown. No matter which side you supported in 2004, we all agree that our state was the victim of a sloppy election that took months to resolve. Many of these problems remain.

To ensure that your vote is counted correctly, you need me in Olympia as your Secretary of State.

I will tighten up procedures and make election administration more transparent.

Black Box Voting Equipment

In 2005, my opponent certified the Diebold touchscreens and other secret vote counting computers. These machines are flawed. I am a professional software developer. I am a geek. And we geeks know that these vote counting computers cannot be verified. At the certification hearing, we testified against using black box voting systems in Washington State. We were ignored.

As Secretary of State, I will immediately conduct a full top-down review of our state's election systems. I will determine if our computers are lawful. I will determine if their flaws have been corrected.

Voter Privacy

In many counties, my opponent added a voter tracking barcode to our ballots. This is unconstitutional. You are not allowed to write your name, or any other unique mark, on your ballot. If you do, your ballot will not be counted. However, the incumbent felt free to add your name to your ballot for you. Do you want your employer, your spouse, or your government to know how you voted? These barcodes eliminate the secret ballot and violate your voter privacy.

To protect your right to privacy, you need to send me to Olympia. I will prohibit the use of voter tracking barcodes.

Thank you.
